Who runs StockAvg
StockAvg is an independent, self-funded website. It is not a broker, not a bank, not an investment adviser and not affiliated with any exchange or brokerage. The site is published under the StockAvg name, and that is the only name on it: there is no personal byline here, and none is needed to use a calculator.
StockAvg is one person's project rather than a company's product, which is also why the site stays small on purpose.
What this site does
It runs a single tool: a stock average calculator. You type in every purchase of one position — how many shares, at what price per share — and it works out your average cost per share, your total share count and your total cost. If you also type in a current price, it shows the market value, the profit or loss and the return.
The arithmetic is a weighted average, and the page shows the sum it used to get there, with your own numbers in it, so you can check the result instead of trusting it.
What this site deliberately does not do
- No live prices. The current price is typed in by you. Nothing on this site fetches a quote, so nothing here can show you a price that isn't real.
- No accounts, no saving, no history. Reload the page and your numbers are gone. That is by design: there is no database behind this site.
- No advice. The page returns arithmetic, not a recommendation. A lower average cost does not make a position safer.
- No fees or taxes folded in. Commissions, taxes, dividends, stock splits and currency conversion are left out. If you want a commission counted, add it to the price per share for that purchase before you type it in.
How your numbers are handled
Every calculation happens in your own browser, on your own device. The numbers you type are not uploaded, not sent to a server and not stored anywhere. See the privacy page for the full picture, including what may change on this site later.
